  • Have you ever felt that you instinctively “know” something is right or wrong? Or that, despite your best efforts to create positive change there’s something deep down that holds you back? This is your unconscious mind at work. Whilst we might like to think we’re rational, logical people, consciously working through problems and deciding on courses of action, our unconscious minds often determine how we make sense of things and how we respond.

     

    Whilst many talking therapies focus on working with our more logical minds, hypnotherapy provides a means to help you connect with your unconscious mind. In this way, it can help you release and move on from past trauma, come up with novel solutions and embrace new positive beliefs. Many people find that hypnotherapy works far more quickly than other forms of talking therapy and that the changes which take place during hypnotherapy last a lifetime.

  • Before you have a session, you’ll have the opportunity to chat with me and ask any questions you might have about hypnosis.

     

    Hypnosis is a natural state of mind, similar to meditation or being absorbed in a pleasant daydream. I’m there as your guide, to help you access a focused, inner-looking state of mind. I do this by talking to you in a way that encourages you to become more absorbed in your internal experience. Hypnotherapy is very different from stage hypnosis; the process is gentle, enjoyable and respectful.

     

    Once I have helped you achieve that absorbed state, I will use a variety of hypnotherapeutic techniques, including using Somasense® which involves working with your mind:body connection, and using powerful positive suggestions, to allow your unconscious mind to create the change you desire.

  • Many hypnotherapists focus solely on what’s happening in your mind. Whilst this is an important part of my work, it’s also important to me that I work with your mind: body connection.

     

    If you’ve ever had a “gut feeling”, experienced stress-related illness or aches and pains, or felt physically crippled by anxiety, you’ll understand what I’m talking about when I use the term mind:body connection.

     

    In the western world, we often think about the mind and body as being disconnected when, in fact, our minds and bodies are constantly communicating with each other. We often ignore what our bodies have to tell us about past experiences or what they feel about the world, which means that we never fully work through or process a powerful storehouse of information and resources.

     

    Somasense® is a mind:body hypnotherapeutic approach which allows me to help you tap into that inner knowledge and develop a sense of harmony with your body, which is particularly important when dealing with physical conditions such as menopause, fertility and birth.

  • Many people first find out about hypnosis through stage hypnosis or television hypnotists. The goal of hypnosis for entertainment is often to get people to say or do “amusing” things. There’s also an element of people, at some level, wanting to be part of the entertainment and act in a way that’s inappropriate or out of character. The process of hypnotherapy couldn’t be further removed.

     

    Because hypnosis is a natural state of mind, and my role is only to help you achieve those things you’d like to achieve to live a more fulfilling and enjoyable life, you’ll never be in a position to say or do anything you’re uncomfortable with. Most people find that hypnosis is an empowering experience and the results are felt far further than the remits of what they initially came to see me about.

  • The experience of hypnosis is completely different for every individual, in the same way that reading a book or becoming absorbed in a creative project is a unique experience. If you’ve ever had that experience of drifting off, remembering being on a lovely holiday when you’re back to your normal life, you can be hypnotised.

  • Hypnosis can be used for anything where people would like to achieve a different outcome. Because people often achieve noticeable results with smoking cessation and weight loss, hypnosis has become associated with these two conditions.

     

    But anything that involves a lack of direction, fear of the future, difficulties letting go of past trauma, pursuing a healthier lifestyle, developing better relationships and creating a life which is more authentic and fulfilling can be helped with hypnosis.

     

    Suppose you’re unconsciously getting in the way of living the life you want. In that case, hypnotherapy is like a key that can unlock all those powerful resources inside of you that will allow you to start living your life differently.

  • Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based approach, which means that a significant amount of research has been conducted and published in peer-reviewed medical journals to show that hypnosis is an effective treatment for conditions including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, menopause and birth.

     

    The people who tend to experience the most profound outcomes are those who really want those changes to happen and are prepared to put into place any practical measures, which might include things like eating healthier or developing a different sleep routine.

  • Hypnotherapy can work very rapidly for some issues, including smoking and certain phobias. However, the types of issues I specialise in are often connected to how you think of yourself at the deepest of levels and may have links to messages you have incorporated throughout your life, or to past difficult or traumatic experiences. Because of this, to achieve the most from your therapy I recommend an initial programme of five sessions.

     

    If you need further sessions following this, we can discuss how you might choose to move forward. If you prefer to have one session at a time, you are welcome to do so.

  • Whilst hypnotherapy is a completely safe approach for most people, there are some people who shouldn’t have hypnotherapy due to physical or mental health conditions.

     

    If you have a condition where you experience psychosis, which includes Schizophrenia and, often Bipolar Disorder, hypnotherapy is not recommended as it could be a triggering experience. If you have epilepsy, narcolepsy or heart disease you are advised to seek out alternative therapeutic approaches to hypnotherapy. If you fall into one of those categories, but have some more questions, you are welcome to get in touch with me to discuss further.
